NexTrain - History

How NexTrain Began

The idea for NexTrain came to life during a typical morning commute. I was standing on the platform, waiting for a delayed train — unable to see the departure board and wondering, "Why can’t I just see the board from here?"

There were countless times like this: standing near the ticket gates, hoping to grab a seat on the 5:39, but unsure if the platform had changed last minute. While several train apps existed, most were focused on journey planning. All I wanted was a live view of the station display — clear, immediate, and accurate.

Frustrated by the lack of a simple solution, I decided to build one. That’s how NexTrain started: a clean, focused app designed to replicate the real-time station experience, right in your hand.

The vision...

NexTrain aims to deliver:

  • A live, station-style departure board in your pocket
  • Reliable, real-time data sourced from National Rail Enquiries
  • Coverage for all stations across England, Wales, and Scotland
  • A single tap to locate your nearest station
  • Station departure info, like the boards at major terminals
  • A landscape view showing all upcoming trains from your chosen platform
  • An interface designed to feel familiar, just like the display boards at the station

The Board In Your Hand

Ever found yourself thinking...

💭 "Is my train late? I can’t see the board from here!"
💭 "Uh-ho the board is broken again, I can't see any services..."
💭 "Platform 3, right? That’s where it usually goes from... I think?"
💭 "Still in the office... do I need to sprint to make it?"
💭 "I forgot my glasses—what platform is it again?"
💭 "But which train calls at my station?"

We've been there—and that’s exactly why we built NexTrain.

NexTrain brings the station display board right to you, minute by minute, using the same train updates that power the display boards themselves .   Our goal is to bring you the same experience you can benefit from being at the platform, but in your hand, wherever you are!

We hope you enjoy using our app and would love to hear some feedback
